Day 18

On Monday I got up early and tried to go boat diving, but an extra person showed up and I got the boot.  I can't complain too much because it's free for me, and it's not like the morning was ruined--I ended up snorkeling instead, and got a lot of great photos.  When I came back from snorkeling, a man wanted to dive while his wife took a class, so I went with him on a nice dive in front of the shop.  A few hours later, I went on a treasure hunting dive!  We were looking for bottles made before traditional machining was invented, but we only found fragments.  Oh well!

So without further ado, here's some lovely photos from Monday:

Brain coral!

Smooth trunkfish.

Christmas tree worms on fire coral.

Spotted scorpionfish.

He thinks he's so sneaky.

Close up!  I love his dorsal fin.

Scorpionfish from above.  He actually does blend in pretty well.

Spotted moray eel.

Spotted moray.

Such a handsome one.

Juvenile French Angelfish.

Sergeant Major.

Beautiful French Angelfish!

Close up.  Love his eyes.

Foureye butterflyfish.

French Angelfish again.

Stoplight parrotfish.

Look at that gorgeous tail!

I think this is a yellowtail parrotfish.

Peacock flounder!

He looks like the unhappiest fish in the world.

Not bad, right?  I bet the other fish don't even see him.

I bet you'd be grumpy if you were that ugly, too.

Smooth trunkfish.

Spotted moray!  He appears to have some kind of growth around his eye.

Spotted moray!

I found an octopus today!  I love octopi.  So cute!

It's just a common octopus, but I was still happy.

Close-up time!

On the move.

Their eyes are a bit freaky.

From the top.

They have goat eyes!  Seriously!

Awww,

Greater Soapfish.

Balloonfish.

Close-up of the balloonfish skin.

It's really hard to get balloonfish head-on!

Stoplight parrotfish.

Smooth trunkfish.

Another smooth trunkfish.  They always look like they're about to give a kiss.

Juveniles blue tang.

Pretty!  They start out yellow, but turn blue later.

Love the blue tips.

On the second dive, we saw a sandfish eating a redband parrotfish!  Poor little guy was still gasping.

Isn't nature great?

Aw, that's cool.

Littering is bad, you guys.  :(

Wee baby fish in an anemone, with a tiny shrimp in front.

Oscar, with his bag of broken bottles.

Chris and Oscar.

Smile for the camera!  (It's hard to smile with a regulator in your mouth.)

And last but not least, a short video of the octopus!  It's only 20 seconds long because I'm not a very good freediver.  Maybe I'll get better with practice!

That's all for today!  Adios!
